How does presence of shale in mineral processing affect the grinding circuit (mill). Is it just a wear issue with the mill liners? or the efficiency of the grind size.

As with many thingd, a simple question with a very complex answer, "it depends".

First off, shale being fairly friable it grinds easily, but does tend to create a lot of fines.  If you are a cement operation you want the shale so this is good.  If you are in a different type process, the shale takes away capacity of the mill and may create excess fines downstream.

So, unless this is a cement operation, the answer MAY be both a wear, lower capacity, grinding efficiency, and others.
