I read that in the processing of metal ores HCl is employed. Does this mean that later on there is a need to remove any remnants? Do chloride removal absorbents find any application within this industry?

HCl is extremely corrosive to most materials of construction...likely dissolution in sulphuric, caustic or ammonia for base metals & cyanide for precious metals; in the mineral processing world, generally zero discharge entails recycle of solutions to process from tailings; chlorides may be treated in waste waters if they are above groundwater discharge limits which I believe are ~250-mg/L...RO/SX technologies are commonly used for Cl removal; if you have a cheaper & more effective mousetrap.
