Is there any previous studies or work done on the topic of tailings reprocessing by adding the previous tailings directly back into the circuit but skipping the obvious crushing?

Yes, Homestake Mining did that at the Bulldog Mountain operations in Creede Colorado during the summer months.  They reprocessed old tailings for the recovery of silver values along with the current production fines.  The coarse fraction was sent underground for ground stability.  If that is of interest to you, please contact me to give you more information.  Homestake also reprocessed other tailings along with the production at their Lead, SD operation.

Yes, Nchanga Tailings Leach Plant at Chingola in the Zambian Copperbelt is a great example. Old tailings (over 20,000 t/day) are repulped, combined with current concentrator final tailings (another over 20,000 t/d) and processed in a Leach-SX-EW circuit.

Normally tailings dumped earlier reprocessed in a new process plant as we did for an iron ore taling dumps in Swaziland . But for reprocessing dumped tailings again back to the existing runing processing plant, the system need to be studied for necessary additions/modifiaction if the dumped tailing is processed with the generated tailings of the existing  plant.
