I have been closely following the flow-sheet development at the FPX Baptiste project. Recently, they have successfully floated out a high grade nickel concentrate, leaving a decent magnetite by-product in the tail. But I suspect that a few percent of chromite is still mixed in with the magnetite and I am wondering what the chances are of floating this out into a separate product stream. Looks to me like the specific gravities of chromite and magnetite are too close for gravity separation. Flotation collector 3418A was used for the nickel fraction and the grind is 25 micron.
