What equipment is best to separate mill oversize from carbon after a disastrous mill run put about 200tons of grit into CIP circuit?

I once used a spiral wheel but it would be very slow at this tonnage:  Would an agricultural grain destoner work?

What size is the grit in comparison to the carbon?  If there is a significant enough difference you might be able to separate using screens.  If not either flotation or gravity separating may be needed.

Size separation is out- there is total size overlap, colorimetic may work but I was wondering if others on this blog have used gravity devices and what their experience was.  Wet carbon has an SG about 1.3 and the rock chips are around 2.9.

I had a recent project where they had the same issue and they used a spiral classifier just before stripping to clean the carbon.  You can also use elutriation column but that is going to be messy with a lot of water.

Hi Peter - any simple gravity separation device that you can get your hands on will do the job for you. An elutriator will also work, but is a bit more complex.

We use a coal spiral to separate grit and carbon. Our ore SG in 2.6 so similar to yours.
