Being a gold prospector for years, I have used small amounts of mercury to recover the fine pieces. A buddy found a large vial of mercury and gave it to me, but it's not shiny clean. The vial seems heavy, even including the water/mercury ratio. It seems to have a gold hue to it and not sure of it's contents. Should I burn off a small amount of it or should I have it tested? What would be the most practical and inexpensive route?
