can caustic soda at pH 12 affect carbon adsorption of gold ?

Adsorption is virtually independent of the pH value in the range 6 to 12. See 7th and 5th page of PDFs.

Some say pH >11 will affect slurry rheology characteristics, C suspension & C passivation or reduced adsorption.

Why 12?  It appears excessive.
