We produce steel casting liners for SAG/Ball mills. One client in Iron ore mine is using rod mill in first stage grinding. The shell liners are rolled steel and work for 7 months. Now they want to switch to cast liners and ask for a proper material in order to increase the lifetime to 12 months. All technical info I have is as below:
Mill Technical Data:
Size (ø×L): 3.85×5.5 m
Type of ore: Iron ore, operating at first stage grinding-wet process
Size of feed material: from 0.05mm to 15mm and higher
Mill Output: 360 ton per hour
Diameter of Rods: 100 mm
Total weight of rods in the mill: 115 ton
Direction of rotation of the mill: counterclockwise
We produce SAG mill liners in Cr-Mo cast steel (325-375 BHN), but we do not know rod mills. Is it more exposed to impact and the Cr-Mo will crack? or here wear dominates and we can use other material with better wear impact, e.g. Ni-hard or high Cr cast steel with more than 48-52 HRC?
