Do we have any crude way of determining the specific gravity (SG) of an iron ore?

Just need a simple method of determining the specific gravity of an iron ore.

Crush the ore to less than 3 cm, weigh out approximately 1000 grams and record exact weight, add ore to a one liter graduated cylinder half filled with water, note rise in water level after the ore is all added, divide the weight of ore by the increase in volume to give the specific gravity of the ore. The definition of specific gravity is the weight of the substance compared to the weight of an equal volume of water so this method does not give the exact specific gravity but is close enough for a cruse determination.
