I am looking up Sulfur standards for ICP-OES and most of the standards offered are prepared in a water matrix. I have only ever seen standards prepared in what's usually a 2-5% acidic matrix. The sulfur standard we currently have at my job site is an older standard, but it was prepared with ammonium sulfate in a 5% nitric acid matrix. I am curious why most of the Sulfur standards offered are prepared in a water matrix? Does this have to do with sulfur being reactive with concentrated nitric acid?
