Hello Friends,

I am very glad to have found this forum. I hope the expertise here can shed some light on something I've been trying to research. In Japan, I found several old silver/ copper/ gold refineries. They were abandoned sometime in the late 1800's. There still remains tons of beautiful slag from the smelting process. The slag contains copper, silver, gold, antimony, lead and mercury. My question is; in such an amalgamated mix with the other metals, will the melting point be lowered to a temperature that won't boil off the mercury? Will this material reach a molten form without releasing all of the Hg first? Any insight into the answer will be greatly appreciated.

Melting points are not affected. Crush and grind your slag before passing it to a gravity separator (table or centrifuge). See what you recover and go from there.
